Introduction
Welcome to the official website of the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act, or Canada’s Modern Slavery Act.
Many Canadians would be shocked to know that slave labour still exists around the world and it exists in the goods we purchase every day. This website aims to educate Canadian citizens and corporations about the Act, present the issue of modern slavery and child labor, answer frequently asked questions, acknowledge contributors, and provide direction to helpful resources.
The adoption is the reult of several years of joint efforts by the Honourable John McKay MP, Senator Julie Miville-Dechêne, their staff, World Vision, as well as several other organizations and members of the legal community.
It’s important to note that this website does not provide legal advice.

Nothing in the 2025 budget to strengthen the ban on importing goods made with forced labour.
“The Trudeau government announced it may make legislative amendments to ensure Canada’s ban on imports produced with forced labour is stronger. It proposed handing $25.1-million over two years, starting in 2025-26, to Global Affairs Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency for that purpose, but there was no sign of that in the budget.”

THE HONOURABLE
JOHN MCKAY PC MP
“The enslavement of one human being by another is morally reprehensible and an egregious abuse of core human rights. The purchase of slave made products knowingly or unknowingly is a direct support to this reprehensible practice.
Forced labour of children and adults is a scourge of the 21st century. The Modern Slavery Act will compel Canadian entities of a certain size to examine their supply chains and file a public statement certified by a corporate officer disclosing the state of forced labour in their product lines. Ideally, the legislation will have the effect of driving down the economic benefit of forced labour products in Canadian supply chains.”

THE HONOURABLE JULIE MIVILLE-DECHÊNE
“I am grateful to John McKay for choosing to work as a team to increase the chances of adopting Bill S-211. Our adventure lasted three and a half years, and we overcame many obstacles together. This law against modern slavery is based on values that are dear to me. Canadians should not take advantage of human rights violations to obtain goods at a lower cost. Companies doing business in Canada have a responsibility in this regard. They will have to examine their supply chain to reduce the risks of forced labor and child labor, and report publicly. This law is a first, important step that provides for sanctions. A developed country like ours cannot turn a blind eye to this exploitation of vulnerable human beings fueled by a global race for low prices.”
